What is good self branding?
Good self branding is simply a component and strategy of your online marketing. Picture this, you’re an online superstar, yet nobody knows who you are. If you think you’re going to be the Spiderman of branding just because you showed up online, think again. Self branding is the basiclaly art of promoting yourself in an assortment of situations. In my business it is the promotion of me as an expert in online marketing. There are a variety of things that tie into self branding and I’m going to touch on a few in this article.
Bad self branding means nobody likes you
This is when you are misrepresented, misunderstood, or not known at all. This can be a result of your negligence’s, it can be a result of misguided intentions and action or it could be because you’re sending mixed messages to your intended audience. Bad branding could simply be no-branding at all. If you think self branding is simply throwing up a squeeze page, starting up your Adwords and tossing a few ads at it, you’re most certainly working on some bad branding.
Where to present good self branding?
This seems obvious doesn’t it? Good vs bad. Good vs evil. Evil branding sounded really harsh, so I am sticking with bad mainly because it is widely considered as the most opposite of good. Anyway, good is as it implies and that means that people simply understand what you are about. They know what you’re selling, or not selling as the case may be, they know you and who you are, can recognize your by your picture and know something personal about you that you’ve shared with them. More often than not, you have taught them something invaluable, and they will respect you for that. Good self branding is building an image. It is an art form, a process by which all good internet marketers know is key to growing your list. And as they say, the money is in the list.
Not paying attention to your branding (mixed signals)
Absent minded self branding is just about as dangerous as bad self branding. Why? If I follow your rabbit hole or intertwined marketing messages, postings, social networking sites, twitter etc does it all lead to the same message? Does your audience understand what you’re really about? Do you know what you’re really about?? It seems to me these days that most online marketers jump on a program, don’t spend the time to really learn it and just jump in for 30-60 days and bail when no one bothers to visit their site and buy their product or service. That in my mind is brand abandonment. There are many lost children in this world, sadly, and there are just as many lost brands, or even lost souls if you care to push the metaphor that far. The point, obviously, is this; do not abandon your brand. Treat it like an extension of your identity, grow your brand into a self branding and remember that people will follow that brand if you remain consistent, remain patient and remain positive about your self branding. It is not a get rich quick scheme with any program you’re working on the Internet. You must treat your brand as an extension of your business. Your program must become your business and not just another Internet get rich quick idea. That I will set aside for another time.
The result of high-quality self branding
In conclusion, the outcome of good self branding is really about sending a good consistent message. If you are in a program that requires you to self brand, and what online marketing program these days do not follow this philosophy, then you must learn to create a 360 degree brand of yourself that flows to one consistent message about who you are, what you want from people and what it is going to cost them to get involved.
